I recently became a dad and to celebrate that, I made this short puzzle game for Game Boy Color with GB Studio. The goal is to find out what the baby's name is.

This "Baby Time!" version will always be free. I'll buy toys for my daughter if there are any tips! :) I'll wait for feedbacks to see if I'll do a longer paid version someday :)

Story

"Baby Time!" is a puzzle-platformer inspired by one of my favorite games: The Lost Vikings.

Yann (Dad), Fifi (Mom) and Juju (Step daughter) are out for a walk. Suddenly, Fifi feels the baby coming, the party rushes to the nearest hospital. But the hospital is a maze full of puzzles and traps.

Gameplay

Fifi can't jump but knows how to build small bridges. Yann can fix computers. Juju is can go through to narrow paths but is afraid of the dark. Try to solve the puzzle and carry Fifi to the next level!

Cute, but too easy/short :)

Thanks! It was easy on purpose, very few people play videogames in my family :D

It's complete before I even react.

I'll add more levels later! :)

Nice short coop game! Too bad it's short but the baby can't wait so it's understandable.

Thanks for playing! Well, I'll probably add more levels when I'll have some time... someday :D

The term "advertising" is a misnomer for selling my free game without my consent.

I appreciate you are trying to come clean, but please don't contact me or steal any of my games ever again.

The only thing I don't like about your game is... it's too short!

The controls are innovative and it is a joy to play! Olivia can be very proud of her awesome parents! Well done, Yann! :)

Thank you, maybe I'll add more content to it, who knows :)

And thanks for your kind words, that's very nice of you :)

A cute, interesting, short puzzle/platformer. Everything is spot on, from graphics, to levels, to setting. The only minor drawback in my opinion is the usage of a button to read instructions and another one for actions (I find this unnecessary, it should be only one).

Play it, it is really worth your time! Welcome Olivia!

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed the game too :)

Interesting feedback! To be honest with you I'm not happy either that I had to use an other button for reading posts but I had to do that because, if I remember correctly, your character jumps when you start reading in platformer mode in GB Studio. There is probably a hack somewhere, but right now, I don't know about it :)

Congratulations on your new baby! We played your game on stream and really enjoyed it!

Thank you for playing! :) You are so enthusiastic, that was really sweet to see! :)

Congrats on the baby, and way to introduce her!  You should consider expanding on this game play concept some day to make a full fledged game.

Thank you! :) I still don't know if I'm going to expand it, it was fun to do but I'm not sure people would be interested? I'm waiting for more feedback :)

To be clear (which I probably wasn't), I'm just talking about the mechanics.  While the story was cute and obviously meaningful, I'm not sure a full fledged "I'm having a baby" motif would work.  I just liked the idea of multiple characters on the same screen with different capabilities, and while it's certainly not a unique concept you treated it well.  I could also see you using the letter collection for either secret bonuses or maybe a way to get extra powers?

I understood you you were taling about mechanics ;) My question was more about: would you play a longer game (2h-3h?) with the same mechanics? I have some ideas to add new mechanics for new puzzles, just wondering if it worths the effort :)

Personally I would, but not sure that I alone would be even close to worth it :)  I'm sure there were other earlier examples, but I think back to the Genesis game The Lost Vikings, and at least since that game I've loved playing puzzle games with multiple playable characters on screen at the same time (as long as it's not "real time").

Yes, I'm like you, The Lost Vikings is a game that I remember very well from my youth, but it was on SNES, not Genesis for me ;)

Well, I'm a bit busy right now with, you know, a baby :D But I'll take time to think about a sequel, for sure :) Thanks for the talk!

I'd definitely play a longer version. I love stuff like Trine or Lost Vikings where you have to solve the different pieces as you go.
